Dear Parents/ Guardians,

Our Harvest Festival Concert will be taking place on Friday 21st October at St David's Church in Hundleton. We will start at 1.30pm and hope to finish just before the end of school. Parents, guardians and friends of the school are all welcome. There is only limited parking at the church so some may need to park at the school and walk.
Both classes will be performing a short play or group poem at the church, also singing harvest songs. We are encouraging the children in Class 2 to come dressed in something relevant to their part in the play. For example if they are a strawberry wear something red or if they are a farmer wear wellies and a cap, please see the class teacher if you are unsure about what their outfit should be. Children in Class 2 have had their lines to learn, please help them to learn and speak their lines and songs at home. Thank you for your help.

Best Regards
T. Reed

Dear Parents/ Guardians

In Class 2 this Autumn term our overall topic is 'Journeys' so lots of topics will be based upon this theme. Class 2 will soon be preparing for our Harvest Festival looking at the journeys of food around the world.

Games lessons in Class 2 will be Thursday afternoon. On that day only we ask that the children come ready dressed in clothes appropriate for a games lesson (track suit, trainers, t-shirt, sweatshirt) with consideration also for the weather. We also hope to run a cross country club during Thursday lunchtimes, starting this Thursday. It will soon be our District Cross Country race.

Swimming this year will be on a Tuesday morning. Years 5 and 6 will be swimming throughout the Autumn term. Years 3 and 4 for the first half of the Winter/ Spring Term. Year 5 and 6 for the last half of the Winter/ Spring Term. Years 2, 3, and 4 for the Summer Term.

For pupils who play instruments in school. Violin and harp with Mrs Thirkettle is on Thursday morning. Flute and clarinet with Dr. Evans hasn't got a confirmed day yet. Both Mrs Thirkettle and Dr Evans are looking for new instrumentalists this year, this is a great opportunity to learn to play an instrument but places are limited so please enquire at the school office. Everyone in Class 2 also do recorders on a Thursday, the school has some recorders to purchase which are £4 each if your child doesn't have their own. Please encourage your child to keep up with their practice and remember to bring their instrument and study books.

Computer club will start on Tuesday 13th September. The club is open to KS2 children only and there is no charge, it will start at 3.40 and finish at 4.40pm. Please enquire at the school office if you are interested.

5th September 2016

Dear Parent/ Carer

There are occasions during the school year when we may take the opportunity to make short visits to nearby places as part of the school children's school activities. These visits will always take place in school time and the children will return before the end of the school day.  Rather than asking for a separate permission slip for each pf these journeys we ask parents/ carers to sign a consent form for the year. We will let parents/ carers know that we are intending to take the children out of school.

As a school we are fortunate enough to have our own minibus and again we ask for an annual consent to take children by minibus to places that are still nearby but are too far to walk, for instance, when older children go swimming.

If we are taking children on a specific educational visit or sporting event, then we will send out individual consent forms for these visits.

Please compete the consent form and return it to school as soon as possible. Many thanks.

Yours sincerely

SPORTS DAY AND FETE CANCELLED ON THURSDAY 30TH JUNE

Dear Parents and Guardians

We have to make the decision to cancel our sports day and school fete on Thursday 30th June 2016. The weather forecast for the coming days is not good as we we had hoped. The extra rain this week has meant that our field will be waterlogged and unsafe as well as our sports preparations cut short.

We plan to use our reserve sports day which is Thursday 7th July 2016 starting at 1.15pm with our school fete straight after.

Apologies for any inconvenience.

6th June 2016

Dear Parents / Carers

I am writing as chair of the newly formed temporary governing body to introduce you to the governors and to update you on progress.

The temporary governing body was formed in April and is made up of members of the governing bodies of Angle, Stackpole and Orielton schools.

Our first job was to appoint a head teacher, we require a strong leader to bring vision and inspiration to the new school and we were extremely pleased to appoint Mr Clive Condon. Mr Condon will continue in his current post of Executive Head Teacher until the new school opens in September 2017.

The next challenge for the temporary governing body is to decide on a name for the new school. We strongly believe that the children's opinions should be sought first and therefore members of the temporary governing body are meeting with the three school councils to discuss their views on naming the new school. We will also be consulting with parents, carers and the local community.

The temporary governing body will meet again in June and once published, minutes of all our meetings are available in the school.

Please be assured that during this transition period all three schools will continue to operate as normal and all staff are working hard to maintain the high standards for which we are all proud.

Thank you most warmly for your continuing support and i look forward to a bright future for our new school and the communities that it will serve.

The members of the temporary governing body are as follows:

  • Mr David Edwards, Additional Community Governor
  • Mr John Allen-Mirehouse, Local Authority Governor
  • Mrs Trina Bowen, Local Authority Governor
  • Mr Gary Evans, Vice- Chair and Community Governor
  • Mrs Ceri Hay, Staff Governor
  • Mrs Sara Hirst, Foundation Governor
  • Revd Geoffrey Howell, Foundation Governor
  • Mrs Anita Howells, Foundation Governor
  • Mrs Alison Kavannagh, Parent Governor
  • Mr Rowland Lewis, Parent Governor
  • Mrs Helen Rich, Local Authority Governor
  • Mrs Jennie Robson, Chair and Parent Governor
  • Mrs Anna Shiels, Teacher Governor
  • Miss Mairead Walsh, Parent Governor

We also have two non-voting observers:

  • Mrs Jenny Llewellyn
  • Mrs Sandra Bryant

If you have any queries about the role of the temporary governing body I can be contacted via e mail at jennie.robson@eastblockhouse.co.uk

Yours sincerely

J Robson

Chair of the Temporary Governing Body for the new school.

We have an opportunity for children in Years 5 and 6 to take part in the 'Hit the Surf' programme provided by the RNLI on 8th June 2016. This will be held at Tenby South Beach, commencing at 12.45pm, therefore we will be leaving school at 12.15pm, travelling by school mini bus. The event will finish approx. 3.30pm so we aim to be back to school by 4.00pm.

Hit the Surf is a half day programme that gives the unique opportunity fort children aged 9-11 to participate in an exciting lifesaving course.

The course provides theory and practical water based lessons on beach safety, surf survival and vital techniques for identifying hazards and dangers.

Children will need to bring sun cream (SPF 30+), sun hat sweatshirt, tracksuit bottoms/ shorts, towel, swimming costume, packed lunch water and any medication needed.

Wetsuits will be provided by the RNLI, however pupils can bring their own wetsuits.

Dear Sir/ Madam

REVIEW OF EDUCATION PROVISION ON THE ANGLE PENINSULA

I write to inform you that Pembrokeshire County Council, at it's meeting of 10th March 2016, considered the following published proposal:

1. As from 31st August 2017, discontinue the following schools currently maintained by Pembrokeshire County Council:

  • Angle Voluntary Controlled School,
  • Orielton Community Primary School,
  • Stackpole Church in Wales Voluntary Controlled School.

2. As from 1st  September 2017, establish a new all through 3-11 school for boys and girls on a site adjacent to The Elms, Hundleton, SA71 5RD to be maintained by Pembrokeshire County Council. The language category of the school will be English Medium (EM).

The decision of Council was to approve the proposal as published.

Prior to reaching its decision, the County Council took account of the comments received as part of the statutory consultation, the objections received to the proposal and the proposers responses thereon.

The new school will address the key issues in the case for change, namely:

  • To improve standards;
  • To ensure more effective leadership by consolidating provision on one site which will result in better delivery of the curriculum which, in turn, will lead to better pupil outcomes.
  • To provide purpose built specialist facilities which will be suitable for the 21st century and which will offer flexibility for the changing demands in teaching and learning;
  • To improve cost efficiency in the running of education provision on the Angle peninsula, particularly with regard to the condition of the buildings and surplus places.

A temporary governing body for the new school will be appointed in due course so that the appropriate implementation arrangements can be made.

Yours faithfully

Kate Evan-Hughes

Director for Children and Schools

Dear Parent

Sports Relief begins on Friday 18th March. Orielton's School Council would like to invite children from both classes to join in with dance activities and events that will take place in school on Friday.

There will be different dance workshops and events organised by the School Council through the day and also activities to raise awareness of the charity. Your child is invited to come into school in suitable 'street dancing clothes' (games kit!) and also offer a donation of £2 towards the Sports Relief charity.

For your information, Maisie Davey (Class 1) has been asked to perform in a special dance event in Disneyland, Paris  in April 2017. She is fundraising to help with her trip. If any parents would like to donate towards Maisie's special event or would like more information please see her mum or contact the school office and ask for Mrs Phillips, Miss James or Mrs Hay.

Many thanks

Orielton School Council
